Dante turns 10!
Double digits is a big deal when your a child, am I right? I still remember when I was turning 10 over 25 years ago, saying to my friend “We are getting old” LOL. The minds of the young…
Never in a million years would we have thought we would be in lockdown for most of 2020. Missing so many milestones, Dante our eldest son is quiet, intelligent, handsome and a massive football fan. We are blessed that he never expects much at all.
This year he should of been celebrating double digits with is best friends, we would of headed out that weekend to the football, mostly to go and watch his beloved Essendon Football Club he then would have accompanied me and his Grandad to watch my beloved Western Bulldogs lastly he would have even gone to watch his other love the Melbourne Storm Would you believe he has been going to every home game since he was a baby! What a weekend it would have been, celebrating with our family and his favorite cuisine in the city!
This year though, it all has changed, the TV has been our closest connection to any kind of sport this year, along with singing happy birthday over zoom calls to our family.
On August 2nd Melbourne went into stage 4 lockdown, three days before Dante turns 10! We had a decision to make, which was if he wished to spend stage 4 lockdown with his Grandparents or staying at home. Meaning he wouldn’t see us for his 10th birthday. Dante thought about his options over night and decided he wanted to stay with his Grandparents, as hard as that is for a parent, I had to realise he has no birthday celebrations to look forward to, no weekend filled with sport, if this is what he wanted to do, it was the least I could do.
The best thing to take away from Covid-19 2020 is Dante has the chance to build a stronger bond with his Grandparents! When would there ever been another opportunity to spend 6 weeks with grandparents? There is not a doubt in my mind that he will never forget these 6 weeks.
